Resistive 5-wire touch technology was developed with the harshest environments in mind, so it’s no wonder that it excels in reliability, durability, and expected product life. Impervious to environmental conditions such as liquid spills and splashes and washdown, these screens are the most contamination-resistant available. They deliver drift-free operation for a lifetime of 35 million finger touches.

What are the Benefits of Resistive Touch Screen Technology?

Resistive 5-wire touch technology offers several key benefits, including stable and drift-free operation, ensuring consistent performance over time. It features broad input flexibility, allowing it to respond accurately to various touch methods. This technology is highly resistant to contamination, making it ideal for demanding environments. Its precision and durability make it well-suited for high-use applications, ensuring long product life. Additionally, resistive 5-wire touch technology meets rigorous NEMA 4/4x/12 and IP65 standards, providing protection against dust, water, and other environmental factors.

What is Resistive Touch Screen Technology?

Resistive touch technology is the workhorse of touchscreens, providing unsurpassed performance in POS, industrial, medical, and transportation applications. Touch the screen with a finger, gloved hand, fingernail, or object such as a credit card, and you’ll receive a fast, accurate response every time.

A thick polyester coversheet is tightly suspended over the top of the glass, separated by small, transparent insulating dots. The coversheet has a hard, durable coating on the outer side and a conductive coating on the inner side.

How Does Resistive Touch Screen Work?

When the screen is touched, the conductive coating makes electrical contact with the coating on the glass. The voltages produced are the analog representation of the position touched. The controller digitizes these voltages and transmits them to the computer for processing.

Five-wire technology utilizes the bottom substrate for both X and Y-axis measurements. The flexible coversheet acts only as a voltage-measuring probe. This means the touchscreen will continue working properly even with non-uniformity in the coversheet’s conductive coating. The result is an accurate, durable and reliable touchscreen that offers drift free operation. These touch screens are sealed against contamination and moisture. This prevents wicking of fluid between the coversheet and glass.
